Then, tomorrow was another day...
Yesterday I did a panel with Richard Price, and then I signed for (according to the newspapers)about six hundred people for five and a half hours. Normally I try very hard to be as nice to the people who've been waiting for hours as I was to the people at the beginning, but I think I may have been ordering the people at the back of the line around a bit just to make sure I finished before the Tom Stoppard talk started at seven. (I finished with 25 minutes to spare.)

The crowd was lovely, and all amazingly good-humoured given how long they were standing around.

Anyway. Five and half hours, which is about five hours and ten minutes longer than anyone else here, which meant that I was being peered at suspiciously, as if revealed as some kind of odd alien being, by other writers with whom only that morning I was sharing jokes and food. I think they have now forgiven me.

After the Stoppard panel, which was marvellous, like a master class, (I'm typing this on the computer in the hotel lobby, and was just tapped on the shoulder by a Newspaper photographer who wanted me to come and pose for some shots, and seemed a bit baffled when I pointed out that I was working) I went to dinner with one of my Brazilian publishers. I hadn't really eaten since breakfast over twelve hours earlier, and discovered that when you are given a very large passionfruit caipirinha after a five and a half hour signing and on an empty stomach, you know it's working because your feet go numb. Possibly they simply went away. Luckily, my feet returned before I had to walk back to the hotel, but it was extremely odd.

Today it's the end of FLIP and the Desert Island Books panel, and I will read a bit from James Thurber's The Thirteen Clocks.

Poor Baby
Lila has been doing really good when it comes to not having any accidents at night, but last night was the exception.

She got up around 7, and found out that she wet my bed as well. *sighs* So, we got it cleaned up. Then I noticed that she's really lethargic and is lying on the couch wrapped up in Fun-Fun. I felt her and she seems to be running a low grade fever.

[info]kidkesty told me that Jacob has strep throat, and she was with them this last Wednesday. I'm hoping this isn't what she's coming down with. So, I'm pushing fluids on her and keeping an eye on her.

One good thing about being up is I got to make Alma breakfast before she left for work.

Up late
I was asleep until about fifteen minutes ago.

Lila wet the bed, and her sleeping schedule is REALLY messed up. Too many early mornings and late nights. So, she ended up taking a nap around 5:30. We woke her up afraid that she wouldn't sleep all night if she had too long of a nap. She ended up begging to go to bed by 8:30, so we told her okay. Then she had the accident. She crawled into bed with us after cleaning up disoriented, and since we have a queen size bed it's just not big enough for the three of us.

Since I don't have to be at work in a few hours and [info]almalthia does, I told her to go back to sleep and I would come out to the living room so they would have room. My body hurts anyway. Not because of lack of sleep, but because it's really humid here and has been for the last few days. Humid + Tish = Sore Tish. My hip and pelvic are killing me, and now that I'm awake it is reminding me of this fact. So, I'm pretty sure me getting back to sleep would have been an improbability anyway.

I'm going to work on icons for a bit. I know I should do some responses, but I haven't had it in me. I think I'm just blocked right now.

Wishes For Your Soul by Lirie Halliwell [Not Naughty]
The idea of "renting" her soul out to anyone - let alone a former Slytherin nemesis - did not sit well with Ginny Weasley. But circumstances always tend to go askew and when she finds herself in a dire position, Ginny has no choice but to relent, accepting the deal and the seven wishes offered as payment.

We belted them!
We won our football game by 71 points today *woot* We were up by 59 points at the end of the first quarter, so the coach messed up all the boys positions and gave our best players big rests on the bench. I’d love to see them play a game in their best positions, just to see how much we’d win by, but it’ll never happen; the coach won’t let the score get too out of hand (he was shocked at the difference after the game). The other thing I’d love is a little real competition for the boys…

It was great not having to run from netball to football and back again today (the girls both had byes). I must look a right sight, because a few of my parents asked if I was ill… I need some sleep!

Tomorrow we have the seniors at home *sobs*

The really good news is that we get a whole week off after tomorrow. None of the kids have training, the football ovals are being returfed so there’s nothing happening there, and next weekend everyone has a bye (except the seniors, but they’re away and as such, not my problem).

Maddy’s doing well. She’s been doing a little walking today and finding it not too painful. Actually, with the compression stocking gone she’s finding her pain a lot more manageable. I’m still going to give hubby’s surgeon a call on Monday and just ask him to review the x-rays at the very least. There was something there – two doctors saw it – so I’d like some clarity on what that was at least.

Quick hits
Wanted, is a good romp. It was a total enjoy your popcorn and drool after McAvoy type of movie. Will be buying it on DVD (Along with all other McAvoy movies, save for Atonement because I can't watch anything with that pointy tooth bulimic cannibal, Keira Knightly)

The Incredible Hulk, so much better than the atrocity that came out in 2003. It really was enjoyable, and I'm excited because it's all going to tie into the 2011 The Avengers, along with the other tie in movies that should be coming out before now and then. If they keep this up Marvel will do well over the next couple of years.

We tried to watch The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep on Pay-Per-View, but our box is wonky and it gave us everything all of it except for the last 20 minutes! It's like reading a book and someone ripped out the last chapter! Totally blew and it wouldn't give it to us again. We need to turn in our box and get a new one I think.

You ever have a moment where you could have done something and you didn't and then you found out if you had it would have been something SUPER COOL??? Yeah, that happened to me today. Now, I'm pretty much bummed. *sighs*

With still a million things to say...
Today the Arcadian idyll turned into something an awful lot more like work. TV interviews all morning, press conference all afternoon. Oh well.

Neil,I'm in Campinas-Brasil, and it's a 5-hours-car trip to Paraty. If I get there, most likely on Saturday, where can I find you since I don't have a ticket to Flip? I really, REALLY would love to have you sign one of books. I, like many in this sunny country am a major fan of yours. I REALLY love your books! And I'm dying to get my hands on Graveyard Book and Neverwhere...Thanks for the attention Livia

Let's see... first of all, you don't need a ticket for FLIP. You do need a ticket to get into the main tent where the authors are talking, or to sit down and watch the overflow screen -- but you can watch the interview without sitting down or listen from anywhere near where the big screen overflow place is. Richard Price and I will be talking at 11:45 am. As for signing, there will be a signing at about 1.00pm on Saturday in the signing area, which will undoubtedly go on for a while. We will probably have to limit the number of things I sign (so for heaven's sake don't hitchhike or drive carrying all the Sandman books plus another set for a dying friend -- they won't get signed. It will be two, maybe three things are most). I'll stop signing at 7.00pm when Tom Stoppard's talk starts, because I want to hear it.

I'll also be on on Sunday at the DESERT ISLAND BOOKS panel at 5.00pm -- there's no signing planned after that, though.

There may be more signing, there may not -- probably not, as the organisers haven't planned for it. I may sign stuff if you bump into me on the cobblestones or in the town square and ask nicely or just hold something out and smile (I have been so far, but it'll depend a bit on how many people try and whether I need to get from place to place) especially if you can do it without making it look like I've suddenly decided to do a signing in the street.
